• After announcing start date two weeks ago, Ghostbusters 3 gets pushed back again

Just 13 days ago, we got word that the long-awaited Ghostbusters 3 would finally start filming this coming Summer, albeit without Bill Murray. But today, we’re hearing Sony Pictures Entertainment, the studio behind the flick, has pushed it back again– this time to the beginning of next Fall at the earliest. And there’s a chance it won’t happen at all, seeing as Sony won’t make any decisions until the end of March, according to the Hollywood Reporter, who cites the studio’s serious financial troubles for the scheduling delays.

As we previously reported, Ivan Reitman is slated to direct and original castmembers Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts are expected to return. Murray is famously not into the idea of a third movie in the franchise. “Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill,” Aykroyd said last August. “My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.” Anna Faris and Eliza Dushku are also expected to appear in the third installment, if it ever happens. The new film would center around the founders of the ghost-catching agency teaching a new generation of wannabe heroes. It’s been 23 years since Ghostbusters 2 was in theaters.

The silver lining is that Reitman now has more time work on yet another sequel: Triplets! That’s right. Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger are set to reprise their roles from Reitman’s 1988 comedy Twins. The twist: They learn they have third sibling, played by Eddie Murphy. Yay?
