• Amazon docuseries follows Just For Laughs New Faces hopefuls

Amazon is set to release Inside Jokes, a six-part docuseries that captures the trials of getting selected for New Faces, a career-defining showcase at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal. The series, from Emmy Award-winning producer Jimmy Fox (United Shades of America), follows seven comedians as they go through the process of trying to make the cut.

Amazon made the announcement through Twitter on Monday.

The series follows the lives (both on- and off-stage) of Rosebud Baker, Robert Dean, Kellen Erskine, Simon Gibson, MK Paulsen, Alzo Slade, and Daphnique Springs. It also features more recognizable New Faces alumni such as Hannibal Buress, Gary Gulman, Pete Holmes, Gabriel Iglesias, Colin Jost, and Chelsea Peretti.

The Canadian company Just for Laughs began in 1983 and has become a comedy giant by producing one of the biggest stand-up festivals in the world. It’s also produced a number of specials, live shows, and television programs. However, their biggest TV hit has been a hidden camera prank show called Gags.

Inside Jokes is Amazon’s latest venture into the world of comedy, as it tries to keep up with a slew of Netflix-produced stand-up specials and series targeting stand-up fans. Even Hulu has tried to compete for the comedy nerds. Prime Video was nominated for 22 Emmys this year, including 14 for the comedy series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Inside Jokes premieres November 30 on Amazon Prime Video.
