• Amazon Studios greenlights three original comedies

Amazon Studios has greenlit three original half-hour comedy pilots in an attempt to compete with video streaming giants Netflix and Hulu Plus. The pilots will stream for free on Amazon Instant Video in early 2014. Based on the feedback and viewership, Amazon will determine which shows to order into full series.

The three projects are: Mozart in the Jungle, by Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman, and theater director Alex Timbers; The Outlaws, written by Jeremy Garelick and Jon Weinbach; and Transparent, from Jil Soloway of Six Feet Under lore. Amazon Studios debuts its first two full comedy series, Alpha House and Betas, this fall on Prime Instant Video.
