Great news, Lonely Islanders! Andy Samberg announced today that he will host the 2015 Emmys, airing September 20 on Fox. In a statement made earlier, Samberg had the following to say about his hosting gig (and traffic safety):
Buckle your seat belts, Emmy viewers! Like, in general you should buckle your seat belts in your car. In fact, even if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should buckle your seat belt. It can be dangerous on the road. Also, if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should strongly consider becoming one this year, because I’m hosting, and it’s gonna be a wild ride. So buckle your seat belts.
Samberg is, of course, himself an Emmy winner, taking home a winged statuette in 2007 for his memorable work on the SNL digital short “Dick in a Box.” He’s also the star-power behind one of the Fox network’s most successful sitcoms, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, so it definitely makes sense that the often cancel-happy network would want to bring Samberg on as host. And if he hosts this rather stuffy event as well as he managed to shake up the Oscars last month, we’re pretty confident that literally everything will be awesome about Emmy evening. Now, when was the last time you were able to say THAT?
