Allie Goertz caught our attention with her unique brand of comedy-inspired singer/songwriter music in 2011, when she released the song “Comedians” on YouTube. Since that time Goertz has gained a significant following online, taking part in the National Lampoon Twitter Awards and winning an appearance on the newest season of Arrested Development on Netflix. Now, with more than 11,000 followers on YouTube, Goertz is submitting a song to another contest—this time, to win a coveted appearance at Tenacious D’s second annual music and comedy blowup Festival Supreme, which goes down Oct. 25 at the Shrine Expo Hall & Grounds in Los Angeles. The lineup this year features Cheech and Chong, Janeane Garofalo, T.J. Miller, Kumail Nanjiani, Doug Benson, Heidecker and Wood and many more comedians, musicians and musical comedians.
The challenge is to create a theme song for Festival Supreme and we think Goertz (aka Cossbysweater) has another winner on her hands. The trick, however, is to convince Tenacious D members Jack Black and Kyle Gass, who will personally judge all entries. If Goertz does win the grand prize – dubbed “The Career Opportunity” – she’ll perform her song on stage, snag $1,500, get an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles to attend Festival Supreme (plus two more VIP tickets for friends), her name will be added to the Festival Supreme concert poster and she’ll get mad exposure on The D and the festival’s sites and social media channels. You can check out her video — which features her dad on electric guitar! — below.
There’s a second place prize too, the “Community Choice,” as selected by the community. The submission with the most support on social media (which is how you vote) will win. That talented guy or gal gets $1,000, two VIP tickets to Festival Supreme and mentions on Tenacious D and Festival Supreme sites and social media.
Voting is now open and ends Sept. 26 at 10 am. The winners will be announced Oct. 1. Go here if you want to Rock the Vote, or whatever.
