• Bob Saget and friends raise $664,000 for Scleroderma research

Family, friends and supporters came together Monday night at Carolines on Broadway in New York City for comedian Bob Saget’s annual scleroderma fundraiser, which raised over $664,000 by night’s end!

The Scleroderma Research Foundation (srfcure.org) hosted ‘Cool Comedy – Hot Cuisine,’ a comedy show with delicious food made by celebrity chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken. Many comedic friends of Saget — who lost his sister to the disease in 1993 — showed up to give their support and lend their talents for the event. Among the performers were Seth Herzog, Jim Gaffigan, Seth Meyers, John Oliver and Wyatt Cenac.

Preceding the show was an auction where Saturday Night Live star Meyers joined Saget and goaded wealthy folks into bidding generous sums for prizes such as an in-home dinner prepared by Top Chef Master Jonathan Waxman, VIP tickets to a Victoria’s Secret fashion show and tickets to the American Idol finale, the last of which snagged $25,000! Late Night with Jimmy Fallon warm-up comic Herzog commented, “I didn’t realize how rich you people were until I saw that auction…you know those tickets are free, right? You can just go to American Idol. They need people to be there!”

While I spoke to Saget before the event, an aide approached him saying, “We’re going to move that thing out of the way. It’s making pictures of the sign awkward.” The former Full House star responded, “The podium?”

    “No, the mic stand.”

    “They’re stand-up comedians—the mic stand stays.”

    Always a comic, first.

The SRF was established in 1987 and funds research to find a cure for the life threatening illness, an autoimmune disorder that attacks healthy body tissue. This year the event sold out every table, which ranged from $500 a plate to $25,000 for a table of 10. For more information or to donate, please visit srfcure.org.
