• Breaking: Greg Giraldo benefit show will feature Daniel Tosh, Whitney Cummings, Tom Papa, more

Greg GiraldoThough it hasn’t officially been announced, we can exclusively report that there will be a show in Los Angeles to honor late comedian Greg Giraldo, with proceeds benefiting his family.

Comedians Daniel Tosh, Whitney Cummings, Tom Papa, Jeffrey Ross, Bill Burr, Jesse Joyce and Dave Attell are scheduled to appear at the Wiltern Theater on June 29. Tickets will go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. and will be available through Live Nation here.

There’s been a handful of shows benefiting Giraldo’s family since the 44-year-old comedian’s untimely death on Sept. 29, 2010. The Wiltern show, however, will be the second major effort; the first went down at the Beacon Theater in New York City in February. The show featured Jerry Seinfeld, Lewis Black, Colin Quinn, Attell, Jim Norton, Ted Alexandro, Eddie Brill and Jesse Joyce.

Shortly before the East Coast show, Giraldo’s wife MaryAnn announced a new initiative she had started through the National Youth Recovery Foundation in order to help children and siblings deal with the effects of addiction.

“I want all children with parents suffering from addiction to learn how to separate the disease from the parent they love and to learn the skills they need to live whole and productive lives, which includes being free to be children,” MaryAnn said of The Greg Giraldo Fund For Children Living in Families with Addiction. “I’ve launched this effort to give more children like mine a break from the chaos of addiction, have fun and meet other children who face the same challenges.”

Giraldo died from the effects of an accidental overdose. It was well known in the comedy community that Giraldo had suffered from severe depression and as a result had been self medicating — on and off — for years. He’s survived by his wife and three young sons.
