While Chevy Chase’s 85-episode run on NBC cult favorite Community has long since come to an end, it seems the iconic actor is gearing up for a return to the small screen. He’s working on a new series for rival network ABC– and he’s teaming up with Beverly D’Angelo, his film wife throughout the National Lampoon Vacation franchise.
If the show gets picked up, Chase and D’Angelo would star as a married couple in their 60s, according to Deadline, who offers the below show description for the single-camera comedy:
They have raised their daughter, who is grown and now lives on the other side of the country with her two kids — and that’s the way these selfish grandparents like it; now they only need to see their grandkids a couple of times a year. But, due to circumstances beyond their control, they now are forced to raise their grandchildren.
Chase parted ways with Community at the end of 2012, after a series of reported conflicts with show creator and executive producer Dan Harmon. If this as yet untitled project gets picked up, however, Chase may have the last laugh. Even the worse rated ABC comedies are typically watched more than the most popular NBC comedies.
