As he winds down the promotional tour for his much anticipated debut directorial outing Top Five, veteran stand-up Chris Rock went on a run of radio interviews throughout New York, stopping by just about every station equipped with microphones. In his own inimitable conversational flow, Rock fielded the usual questions about how excited he is to direct, along with giving lots of shine to the “ten, twenty” comedian friends in his film, particularly to Cedric the Entertainer. Amidst the humdrum questions, however, Rock reignited our communal excitement when he stopped by Ebro in the Morning on Hot 97 and spoke on what was once a tour of lore: the Rock/Chappelle tour.
A few years back, Chris Rock sparked a brushfire when he mentioned that he and fellow stand-up superstar Dave Chappelle could embark on a Watch The Throne-type tour. The flare-up of anticipation died down just as quickly as nothing seemed to come of it. But, today, when Hot 97 host Ebro asked what Rock’s plans post-Top Five would be, Rock coyly responded “Me and Dave was talking about maybe doing something.” The response hints that the tour is still in the works and might actually happen, a thought we all can’t get any more psyched about. Rock went on to affirm that he would give the coveted closing spot to Chappelle and that he himself is an admirer of the D.C. native.
Check out the interview below and try not to fist pump like Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club about this. Top Five premieres this Friday, Dec. 12.
