Comedy world will be blessed with at least two more seasons of Archer

FX is locking up its top animated show for at least another two years. Archer has been picked up for a sixth and seventh season through 2016. “Archer is one of the best comedies on television and has played a significant role in the growth of the FX comedy brand,” said Eric Schrier, one of the presidents of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions. The show is in the midst of its fifth season, wherein the ramshackle ISIS spy agency — voiced by the likes of Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Chris Parnell, Judy Greer and Jessica Walter — has turned to selling drugs; this, after it was learned the crew had been illegally operating as a covert operations organization (see video below).

Known for its tough dramas like Sons of Anarchy and Justified, FX has steadily made huge moves to become an important player in the world of comedy. In September they launched FXX, a new channel just for their comedy shows like It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The League and Legit. Then to show they were serious, they spent a significant amount of money to be the first cable network to air re-runs of The Simpsons. Some of you may remember the amazing “Louis C.K. Deal” back in December, a multi-year development deal to create pilots with the option to write or direct any of the projects (the first pilot to come out of the deal will star Zach Galifianakis). Along with new animated show Chozen, Archer creates an animated comedy hour that continues to round out a cable channel once limited to re-runs of The X-Files and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
