Denis Leary gets another TV show greenlit as IFC has ordered eight episodes of Benders. The half-hour hockey comedy developed under the title Uncle Chubby’s follows a group of friends bonded by an undying obsession with their amateur hockey league. None of the members are near-professional or even truly amateur athletes but that doesn’t stop them from playing slow, out-of-shape, “Hey guys, hold on a second!” hockey.
IFC president Jennifer Caserta said, “Benders is exactly the type of fresh, original comedy that complements our existing programming slate. Hockey knowledge not required, these guys are all about their beer and their bros.” will executive produce Benders with Jim Serpico and Tom Sellitti. His Apostle company will produce the show. “We’re also excited to continue our relationship with Apostle,” Caserta added. Apostle produces IFC’s hit comedy series Maron.
In addition to Maron and Benders, Leary also executive produces Sirens on the USA Network and will star on Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll on FX later this year.
