After many years on FX with his hit show Rescue Me, comedian Denis Leary might return to the network with a new half-hour comedy show. FX has ordered a pilot for Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, a show about middle-aged rock ‘n roller Johnny Rock who wants to be rich and famous but can’t seem to pull it off. A formerly successful singer of an early 90’s band, he messed up his chances of fame with alcohol and drug abuse, sleeping with his friends’ wives, ultimately splitting up the band before their album debut. Twenty-five years later, Johnny Rock wants to rock again. “I am very excited to be returning to FX where working with Nick [Grad], Eric and John Landgraf has been one of the best creative experiences of my life.
Plus I hear they have better swag now,” the comedian said in a statement. Leary will write and executive-produce with his Rescue Me executive producer Jim Serpico. The pilot will shoot this spring in New York City and feature original music. Leary and Serpico have another half-hour comedy, Sirens, debuting on March 6 at 10 pm EST on the USA network.
