Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Bambi? If that sounds like something out of a Saturday Night Live skit, that’s because it was. The Fast & Furious 7 star mocked Disney’s penchant for live-action remakes (see: Cinderella and Maleficent) in a hilarious fake trailer on SNL.
This “New Disney Movie” SNL skit imagined what would happen if the studio took The Rock and all of his action film co-stars and dropped them into a remake of Bambi. Dwayne Johnson, of course, played the title character, who vowed revenge on the hunters who shot his mother.
“When I was a boy, they took away my mother,” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said as Bambi on Saturday Night Live. “Now it’s time for them to pay … deer-ly.”
Indeed, this wasno ordinary Bambi. The Rock’s version of the cartoon deer smokes cigars, fires guns, and hangs out with similarly vengeance-minded woodland creatures. This fake SNL trailer also starred Vin Diesel (played by Taran Killam) as Thumper, Tyrese Gibson (Jay Pharoah) as Flower, and Michelle Rodriguez (Cecily Strong) as Faline, aka “Girl Bambi.” Together, they plotted an attack on a nearby hunting lodge.
“We’re going out together… one last ride,” the Rock-as-Bambi told his pals, in a line hilariously reminiscent of his actual movies.
The trailer also featured an original song from Ludacris (also played by Pharoah) called “Wham, Bam, Bambi.” This SNL skit was so funny we almost hope Disney does film a live-action remake with The Rock in the future (after all, it can’t be any worse than The Tooth Fairy).
