• Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop fourth installment goes down in 2016

Beverly_Hills_CopEddie Murphy will return to the big screen in the long-awaited fourth installment of Beverly Hills Cop. Paramount announced that the follow-up to the 1980s crime comedy will hit theaters on March 25, 2016. Murphy will reprise his iconic role as Axel Foley, a smartass detective with street smarts and brilliant intuition. The quick-witted cop will return to Detroit to solve his newest caper. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemac are working on the script. The first Beverly Hills Cop came out in 1984 to gross about $235 million in the U.S. and over $300 million worldwide, launching the young stand-up comedian to stardom as a bankable box office talent. Murphy went on to appear in a sequel and a third movie, in 1987 and 1994, respectively, creating a franchise that has grossed over $735 million at the box office worldwide. He has also seen success as a voice actor as Donkey in the Shrek saga. However, Murphy’s recent live-action films have been considered box office duds, such as A Thousand Words, Tower Heist, and Meet Dave (for which he was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor). The news comes fresh off of a few sequel announcements. David Spade revelaed last week in a Reddit AMA that a Joe Dirt sequel is well on its way. Fox 2000 announced last month that a new script has made a Mrs. Doubtfire sequel starring Robin Williams very possible.
