• Emmy Awards producers tap Late Night host Seth Meyers as emcee

Seth Meyers 300Seth Meyers has another new hosting gig after his successful take-over of Late Night. Meyers will host the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards this August. The Saturday Night Live alum was tapped by producers for this year’s NBC broadcast of the ceremony (broadcasting rights rotate amongst the four major networks). It’s a sensible choice. Last year, CBS chose How I Met Your Mother darling Neil Patrick Harris to host. The year before that, ABC tapped their late night star Jimmy Kimmel, and the year before that Fox chose Glee star Jane Lynch. The last time NBC aired the Emmys, it chose newly-minted Late Night host Jimmy Fallon as the master of ceremonies. Plus, Meyers has an exceptional hosting resumé. He’s hosted the ESPY Awards twice, emceed the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2011, and spent the better part of a decade behind the Weekend Update desk on Saturday Night Live. “Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL, as well as his comedy brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on SNL and Late Night, makes him the perect choice to host the Emmys,” said NBC’s head of alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy. Not to mention, he’ll also possibly be nominated for Emmys for both Saturday Night Live and Late Night.

The 2014 Primetime Emmys will be held on Monday, August 25 at 8pm on NBC.
