• Erik Rivera talks about his NBC comedy series, produced by Eva Longoria (Exclusive)

Ever since Friends and Seinfeld, NBC has struggled to find a full line-up of hit comedies on Thursday night. With 30 Rock retired and its freshmen shows, Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show, barely hanging on, the Peacock network needs to find a quality show to pair with its still-successful Parks and Recreation. Cue Erik Rivera.

Eva Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment has sold a comedy to NBC starring rising comic Rivera based on his whacky family and stand-up act. “[Eva’s] a big fan of me and my stand-up and has been looking for the opportunity to create a show to showcase me and my talent,” Rivera tells Laughspin. “She’s truly been a Godsend and just an amazing person to work with.” As another Latino family sitcom, Rivera succinctly described the show by saying, “No matter where I am in the world, the chaos that is my family always seems to find me.”

No other castings have been announced although the Los Angeles-based comedian, who originally began his career grinding in out the clubs in New York, told us that some of the names thrown around to play the female lead have been Salma Hayek, Sofia Vergara and Zoe Saldana. They were shut down “not only by the studios, but also by my wife.” Hopefully the untitled project will be the funny fit to fill NBC’s comedy night void.
