Trailer for Bo Burnham’s MTV show Zach Stone is Gonna be Famous is here, looks good (Video)

Nearly seven months after MTV greenlighted comedian Bo Burnham’s meta-comedy series Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous, we finally get our first look. And judging by the trailer below, it seems Burnham’s quick-wit and hyper-intelligent live show has translated well to the smallscreen.

The show centers on Burnham’s titular character, who, during the summer before college, is dedicated to becoming famous for anything— anything at all. To that end, he drains his bank account to hire a film crew to follow him around in hopes that he’ll be able to cobble together a compelling film about himself, hence securing his place in the spotlight. The fact that the show will live on MTV – the network that created Jersey Shore and continues championing unwanted pregnancies a la Teen Mom – makes Burnham’s social commentary that much more intriguing. Check out the first official trailer before the show premieres May 2 at 10:30 pm ET.

Not to get too philosophical about an MTV show, but the series is undoubtedly the product of Burnham’a introspection about his own rapid rise to fame and how that will affect his standing in the comedy community. The 22-year-old Massachusetts native landed a deal with Comedy Central Records based on the success of his musical comedy videos on YouTube. By 2008 the digital EP Bo Fo Sho was a hit on iTunes. The following year saw the release of his first full-length album (self titled); and in 2010, Burnham released his album Words Words Words, which also aired as an hour-long special on Comedy Central and was released — uncut and uncensored — on DVD. It landed on Laughspin’s Top 10 DVD list for that year.
