Though Gary Gulman has been a favorite of fellow comedians and true comedy nerds for the better part of the last decade, the veteran comedian has, in the last year, been breaking through to mainstream comedy audiences. And with two stellar one-hour comedy specials and three comedy albums under his belt, Laughspin is pleased to exclusively report the Boston native will record his third hour-long stand-up comedy special on March 18 at the Highline Ballroom in New York. Titled You’ll Get Over It, Denis Leary and Jim Serpico’s company Apostle will oversee production.
Gulman recently celebrated 20 years in comedy with his national It’s About Time tour. And while The New York Times recently wrote that Gulman “is finally being recognized as one of the country’s strongest comedians,” we here at Laughspin pretty much always knew Gulman was an amazing, underappreciated talent. His album No Can Defend was selected as number five in our 10 best comedy albums of 2012; we interviewed Gulman in 2008, reviewed his hilarious holiday album in 2010, interviewed him again in 2012 and I was happy to include Gulman in a very short list of comedians people should know when I appeared on NPR’s Here & Now this past December.
