A giant spider in Australia is attempting to steal the viral video crown of last year’s Pizza Rat in New York City. Let’s review, in the unlikely event you don’t remember our friend Pizza Rat. He was the rat, seemingly small in physical stature but so, so huge in heart, spirit and hunger. Pizza Rat was, to say the least, determined to eat. And as any good New Yorker knows, there’s nothing better than a good old-fashioned slice, even if it has been collecting bacteria on a filthy street and is currently being dragged down subway stairs, which — and this is a fact — is literally the dirtiest surfaces on Earth.
Well, Pizza Rat is yesterday’s viral sensation in the category of small, creepy animals. Jason Womal, a tradesman from Coppabella, Queensland, videotaped a huntsman spider (aptly named) dragging an entire mouse up the side of a refrigerator. If you’re wondering why the mouse isn’t moving, let us explain the nightmare further: a huntsman spider paralyzes its prey with toxic venom. Usually a hunstman spider, which can grow as much as 10-12 inches, usually chows down on smaller fare like cockroaches, crickets and maybe the occasional skink or gecko.
“Ok guys so just letting you all know that the spider is fine,” Womal wrote on Facebook. “We have named him Hermie, we have adopted him and he is now running his own extermination business out of our town Coppabella. Oh and he is now paying rent.”
