Grammy nominations were announced on Friday morning, including the contenders for Best Comedy Album. And there are plenty of big names up for the honor.
Dave Chappelle, who won the 2018 Grammy in this category, is nominated for his album Equanimity & The Bird Revelation. He is up against the 2017 winner, Patton Oswalt, who is nominated for his album Annihilation. Oswalt jokingly tweeted Friday morning that he and his fellow nominees were going to coordinate their outfits for the big ceremony.

Another 2019 Best Comedy Album nominee, Jim Gaffigan, also tweeted in response to his fourth Grammy nomination. Gaffigan, who is nominated this year for Noble Ape, joked that the 2019 award will likely go to Chappelle or Chris Rock, a three-time winner who is nominated again for Tamborine.
Honestly honored to be nominated. Thank you @recordingacademy. Congrats to fellow nominees @pattonoswalt & @sordociego Huge congrats to inevitable winner @chrisrock or #davechapelle. pic.twitter.com/wW0t0R6dQv

Also up for the 2019 Best Comedy Album Grammy is first-time nominee Fred Armisen, who was nominated for Standup For Drummers. The unconventional album was recorded as a Netflix special in front of an audience of drummers featuring a lot of, well, stand-up for drummers.
As The Interrobang noted, this is the first time in 11 years that no women are nominated in the Best Comedy Album category. Lisa Lampanelli received nods in 2008 and 2016, while Kathy Griffin was nominated for six consecutive years, finally winning in 2014. Sarah Silverman was nominated in both 2015 and 2018, and three women were nominated in 2017 (though they all lost to Oswalt).
However, one female comedian, Tiffany Haddish, was nominated in the Best Spoken Word Album category for the audiobook version of her memoir, The Last Black Unicorn. She faces an eclectic field that includes fellow comedian David Sedaris along with musician Questlove, actor Courtney B. Vance (who is nominated for the spoken-word version of a Neil deGrasse Tyson book), and former President Jimmy Carter, a two-time winner in the category.
Another comedian, Donald Glover, is making headlines for his nominations in several musical categories. Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, is up for five Grammy awards. That includes his nods for Record of the Year and Song of the Year for his single This Is America. Glover took home his first Grammy earlier this year, winning the 2018 award for Best Traditional R&B Performance.
