• Greg Giraldo Fund For Children Living in Families with Addiction established

Greg GiraldoJust two days before a group of incredible comedians are set to perform at the Beacon theater in New York in honor of the late Greg Giraldo and to help raise funds for his three children, Giraldo’s wife MaryAnn and the National Youth Recovery Foundation announced a new initiative to help children and siblings deal with the effects of addiction.

Giraldo died from the effects of an accidental overdose on Sept. 29, 2010; he was only 44. It was well known in the comedy community that Giraldo had suffered from severe depression and as a result had been self medicating — on and off — for years.

“I want all children with parents suffering from addiction to learn how to separate the disease from the parent they love and to learn the skills they need to live whole and productive lives, which includes being free to be children,” MaryAnn said of The Greg Giraldo Fund For Children Living in Families with Addiction. “I’ve launched this effort to give more children like mine a break from the chaos of addiction, have fun and meet other children who face the same challenges.”

This Wednesday, Giraldo’s longtime friend, comedian Tom Papa will host an all-star comedy show in New York featuring Jerry Seinfeld, Lewis Black, Colin Quinn, Dave Attell, Jim Norton, Ted Alexandro, Judy Gold and Jesse Joyce.
