• Hannibal Buress, Nick Swardson, Bobby Moynihan will star in animated series ‘Chozen’

As Danny McBride shoots the fourth and final season of Eastbound & Down for HBO, his mind will also undoubtedly be on Chozen, the animated series FX’s to-be launched sister channel FXX just greenlighted. McBride will co-executive produce the series, which follows the life of a gay, white rapper who, upon being released from prison, is looking for redemption.

Former writer’s assistant on Eastbound & Down, Grant Dekernion wrote the show and will voice the main character. The budding comedy talent will be joined by a veteran voice cast: McBride, Hannibal Buress, Saturday Night Live’s Bobby Moynihan, Kathryn Hahn, Nick Swardson, Michael Pena and Method Man. Dekernion also will compose original songs, which will be featured in the series.

Chozen will be the first original program on FXX. It joins It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, Legit and Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. Chozen, along with Legit’s second season, will debut early next year. FXX launches on Sept. 2. Archer showrunners Adam Reed and Matt Thompson will join McBride’s regular production team as co-executive producers on Chozen.
