• Humble Bundle does comedy with Maria Bamford, Patrice O’Neal, Hannibal Buress, more

Humble 350Ever since Louis C.K. self released Live at the Beacon Theater in December of 2011, the way in which comedy fans consume laughs at home has been ever-changing. Comedians like Jim Gaffigan and Aziz Ansari followed C.K. with the direct-to-fan model and still others (and ultimately C.K., Gaffigan and Ansari as well) found balance in a hybrid approach, wherein self-released projects happily co-existed with traditional distribution methods. In other words, albums and specials that were, at first, exclusively released via comedians’ official websites were then streamed on Netflix and/or had its television debut on Comedy Central or another network. And now an innovative Website called Humble Bundle is further rewriting the rules of comedy distribution.

Just a few hours ago, the pay-what-you-want charity-focused site released their first ever “comedy bundle,” which includes albums and specials from C.K., Maria Bamford, Hannibal Buress, Jim Norton, Patrice O’Neal and Tig Notaro– seven releases all together. To snag this bundle, simply point your browser here. At the site you choose how much you want to spend on the bundle and you also dictate how much of that price goes to the artist, a participating charity and to Humble Bundle. But there’s a catch: you only have two weeks to take advantage of the offer. Check out this stellar video below, wherein Bamford explains what you get.

“We couldn’t be more excited with the lineup of comedians we’ve introduced on Humble Bundle’s first foray into Comedy. This is hopefully the beginning of something special,” says Steven Feinartz, who curated the bundle. “The pay structure is so unique in how it gives the audience complete control. It’s unlike any pay-what-you-want model we’ve seen in the past. You choose how much you want to give and also adjust the sliders to your favorite charity or comedian. I can’t think of two comics that have a more opposite approach than Maria Bamford and Jim Norton, and I’m thrilled with the concept that these two comedic geniuses are in a bundle together.”

Founded in 2010, Comedy Bundle has previously bundled video games, music and eBooks. They’ve already sold more than $56 million worth of content and boasts 2.5 million previous customers.
