In light of DOMA overturning, Modern Family considers gay marriage while TV Land show Soul Man goes for it

Will America’s favorite gay couple finally get married? Possibly. With the Surpeme Court court’s decision to overturne Defense of Marriage Act (aka DOMA), Cam and Mitchell (Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson) may finally get the wedding they deserve. “It’s a real possibility,” said co-creator Christopher Lloyd to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s certainly something we are contemplating on the show in ways we wouldn’t have in prior seasons.”

This isn’t the first time that the writers have considered a wedding. Just last month, the ACLU launched a campaign to encourage the show to marry the beloved couple. But considering the show hasn’t even shown any type of commitment ceremony stay away from making a political statement, it isn’t likely that the writers will cave just because of public pressure. If the show does decide to marry the couple, it would have to be on their own terms and in a true Modern Family fashion.

But withsoul man wedding statements like, “they would be feeling that a door has opened that was closed to them. Wouldn’t it be pretty tempting to think about walking through it?” all signs are pointing towards the steeple. We will just have to wait with our fingers crossed and bags of rice ready to throw for when they do make the decision.

Meanwhile TV Land’s Soul Man, which stars Cedric the Entertainer and Niecy Nash, are going for it. On an episode called “Bride and Prejudice,” set to air on July 31 at 11 pm ET, Cedric’s character (Boyce, a pastor) is asked to marry his old friend Gina and her partner Drew (see photo). A conflict ensues because some members of his congregation aren’t as accepting as Boyce. It looks like it’s time for Modern Family to act. This is only Soul Man‘s second season, and already they seem fearless.
