Jeff Garlin launches podcast, says chance of a new season of ‘Curb’ looks ‘pretty good’

Comedian, actor, writer and producer Jeff Garlin has officially entered the fray of comedy podcasting, thanks to his recurring live show and Earwolf, the groundbreaking podcast network founded by Scott Aukerman and Jeff Ullrich.

Like dozens of existing podcasts, Garlin’s show, By the Way, In Conversation with Jeff Garlin will boast candid chats between himself and his comedian-type friends. What makes this show somewhat different, however, is the combination of sheer star power and the fact that each episode was recorded live in front of an audience.

The first episode will be available Thursday through and iTunes and will feature, not surprisingly, his good friend Larry David. Over the course of a year or so, Garlin has taken to the stage of Largo at Coronet in Los Angeles to pick the minds of Lena Dunham, Michael Moore, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz, Sarah Silverman, Garry Shandling, Zach Galifianakis and Judd Apatow. He’s also welcomed legendary Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy. “I just love the guy,” Garlin says. “That was a great interview. He was nothing but witty.”

It wasn’t until recently, however, that the Curb Your Enthusiasm star knew what to do with the recordings. “We were recording them knowing we were going to do something with them but we had no plans,” Garlin tells Entertainment Weekly in an interview posted today. “People kept on asking me, “What are you going to do with these?” And I always said, “I have no idea.” And then Earwolf presented to me a great opportunity so I went with it.”

In the same interview, Garlin explains that a ninth season of Curb is looking good, though hardcore fans shouldn’t expect it anytime soon. “The earliest we’d start filming, if we did, would be the fall. We’ll see. But I think [chances] are pretty good.”
