In what was a great convergence of the old guard and the new, Jimmy Fallon hosted comedy legend Jerry Lewis on The Tonight Show. Lewis stopped by to promote the 50th anniversary Blu-ray release of arguably his most memorable film, The Nutty Professor. At 88, Lewis kept up with Fallon with vintage quips and gave insight to a famous scene from The Errand Boy before recreating it with Fallon in a silly musical conversation.
The appearance was a sort of tender passing of the slapstick torch, from one endearingly goofy everyman to another. It probably helped that Fallon steered clear of any controversial topics, like how Jerry Lewis isn’t the biggest fan of female comedians or how he once threatened the life of Joan Rivers. Lewis’ Nutty Professor is also being adapted for theater and coming to Broadway in November. Check out the back and forth between Lewis and Fallon below!
