Mindy Kaling wrote a dope role for a dope queen. Jessica Williams will star in Four Weddings and a Funeral, an upcoming Hulu limited series based on the 1994 film starring Andie MacDowell and Hugh Grant. This will be the former Daily Show correspondent’s return to streaming since her Netflix original movie The Incredible Jessica James came out last year. She joins the Harry Potter universe in November starring as Eulalie Hicks in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The 2 Dope Queens star will play Jess, a young communications director for a New York senatorial campaign who gets invited to a London wedding. While reconnecting with old friends and serving maid of honor duties, she somehow ends up in the middle of everyone’s drama. Opposite Williams is Rebecca Rittenhouse who plays Jess’s estranged college friend Ainsley, an engaged Dallas socialite who moved to London after school.
Also attending the titular weddings (and funeral) are struggling British actor Kash, played by Nikesh Patel, and Jess’s former classmate Duffy, played by John Reynolds, who has had a crush on Jess since their school days.
Four Weddings and a Funeral brings writer Mindy Kaling back to Hulu. Back in 2016, the streaming giant saved The Mindy Project after it was axed by Fox. The Emmy-nominated series ran for three more seasons on the platform. Fellow Mindy Project writer Matt Warburton wrote the script with Kaling.
Jessica Williams starts attending weddings on Hulu in 2019.
