• John Oliver, Stephen Hawking Interview Hilarious! ‘Last Week Tonight’ Video Shows Scientist’s Sense Of Humor

Stephen HawkingJohn Oliver’s sitdown with Stephen Hawking may been one of the host’s funniest interviews to date. But surprisingly, it was the scientist who provided most of the zingers.

Stephen Hawking was a guest on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, where he was part of the series “People Who Think Good.” Of course, the discussion centered on serious topics, like imaginary time and artificial intelligence, the latter of which Hawking thinks could lead to the destruction of humanity. But when John Oliver wondered if artificial intelligence had taken over Stephen Hawking’s mind, the scientist replied, “You’re an idiot.”

But since this was John Oliver’s show, it was only a matter of time before the Stephen Hawking discussion turned to more amusing topics. Oliver asked if Hawking was street smart, using a bizarre hypothetical involving drug kingpins. Hawking simply replied that he doesn’t do drugs, which Oliver claimed was the perfect answer. After all, as Oliver noted drug lords never “do [their] own s–t.”

John Oliver then asked Stephen Hawking about his theory of infinite parallel universes. Oliver wondered if there was a universe out there where he was smarter than Hawking.

“Yes, and also a universe where you’re funny,” Stephen Hawking replied to John Oliver.

John Oliver fired back, asking Stephen Hawking to prove his intelligence by figuring out what number the host was thinking of. When Hawking seemingly passed that test, Oliver challenged the scientist to again determine what was in the host’s mind.

“That you’ve been a huge disappointment to your family,” Stephen Hawking zinged.

When John Oliver recovered from this diss, he asked Stephen Hawking a series of yes or no questions. We found out that Hawking believes there could be life on other planets, but not that Oliver could score a date with Charlize Theron, in this or any universe.

John Oliver then ended the Stephen Hawking interview by asking the scientist if he would want to go back in time and refuse to appear on Last Week Tonight. Hawking replied “yes,” presumably in jest.

“You truly are an incredibly smart man,” John Oliver deadpanned.
