Jordan Peele has a new show looks absolutely weird but in the best way possible. Weird City, a new half-hour sci-fi comedy show created by Peele and Charlie Sanders, seems like a continuation of Peele’s prolific career in bringing audiences inventive and terrifying science fiction combined with a biting sense of humor.
Peele received an Oscar for writing Get Out, and his new movie, Us, hits theaters March 22. On the small screen, Peele is also premiering a reboot of another sci-fi series, The Twilight Zone, on CBS All Access April 1.
And if you’re a fan of any of these things, Weird City is right up your alley.
Weird City is an anthology of stories set in a fictional town of Weird in the not-too-distant future. As with most good sci-fi, Peele uses the genre to not only entertain but also to make commentary on present-day society. It’s a lot like the original Twilight Zone or Black Mirror, but with a sense of humor.
Since the show comes out right before Valentine’s Day, it’s only fitting that the first episode revolves around love. In the clip below, desperately single characters in search of their perfect match go to Negari Labs, a futuristic facility that uses DNA testing and a specific questionnaire to help people find love. Of course, not all is what it seems.
Big stars join Jordan Peele on Weird City
On top of imaginative plot lines and sharp comedy, Weird City also has a huge roster of guest stars like Rosario Dawson, Michael Cera, Laverne Cox, LeVar Burton, Awkwafina, Steven Yeun, Gillian Jacobs, Mark Hamill, and many more.
Weird City will premiere on YouTube Premium on February 13. The service usually costs $11.99 per month, but new members can sign up for one month free.
