Judd Apatow is one busy man. It was just announced last week that he would produce a new Pee-wee Herman movie starring Paul Reubens. Now he’s developing a a comedy with laura Dern. Dern and Apatow will pair up to produce an untitled female-driven ensemble comedy about obsessive female football fans for Universal Pictures. Think Bridesmaids but replace a wedding with the Super Bowl. South Park writer Pam Brady will write the script.
It’s amazing how the comedy wunderkind is able to juggle so many projects at once. Judd Apatow recently wrapped Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer. Meanwhile, Netflix wants two seasons of his series Love starring Gillian Jacobs and a Lonely Island movie appears to be in the works. The king of comedy doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon with HBO’s Girls, which he executive produces, about to start its fourth season in January.
Dern has no fewer than three films in various stages of production, including 99 Homes with Andrew Garfield and Bravetown with Maria Bello and Josh Duhamel. Hopefully this new project makes it through development and into theaters so we could maybe see a female-led Ghostbusters face-off against Apatow’s ladies.
