• Katt Williams apologizes for ethnic rant; but did he need to?

On Monday we posted a video of comedian Katt Williams performing in Phoenix. The seven-minute clip captured Williams confronting a heckler in such a way that many viewers questioned whether the often-in-trouble comic was guilty of going off on a racist tirade. When we posted our story, the video had less than 400 views on YouTube; it’s now got well over 200,000. It’s gone viral, to say the least.

Williams, in part, said the following: “…do you remember when white people used to say go back to Africa?” Katt says toward the end of the rant. “And we’d have to tell them we dont want to? So if you love Mexico, bitch, get the fuck over there! [sings “Star Spangled Banner”] We were slaves, bitch. You just all work like that at the landscapers. It’s not even racial — you’re a bitch! I don’t give a fuck what race that is, that’s a pussy.” The full video is below.

Well, today Williams offered an apology. “My remarks were not meant to be offensive. I want to apologize if my comedy act was taken out of context,” Williams said in a statement. “I sincerely appreciate my fans within the Mexican community and would never intentionally go out of my way to offend them.”

Our question is: Was the apology necessary? Let us know what you think in the comments section.
