Comedy mogul Kevin Hart and his company HartBeat Productions have agreed to a first-look deal to produce shows with Nickelodeon, the company announced yesterday. The deal will give Hart’s production company the ability to produce live-action scripted kids’ content for the network.
“I’m excited to inherit this terrific content deal with Kevin Hart just as I step into my new role at Nickelodeon,” said Brian Robbins, the new Nickelodeon president. “Kevin is an incredible talent whose appeal cuts across practically every age group and every member of the family. He knows how to create unforgettable characters, and I can’t wait for him and HartBeat Productions to focus their creativity on making great new content with us,”

HartBeat Productions has already had a busy year. It produced the box office hit Night School, starring Hart and Tiffany Haddish, and is finishing up work on Black Stallions, a movie about three rival jockeys who also happen to be brothers. The company has previously produced stand-up, including Hart’s last three specials, a special from Keith Robinson, and one from Lil Rel. It also created a spoof of Bravo’s The Real Housewives called The Real Husbands of Hollywood, which starred Hart.
This deal with Nickelodeon is yet another big step for the comic as he continues to stretch his brand beyond the world of stand-up.
