Larry Wilmore in Stephen Colbert’s timeslot: Comedy Central starts ‘Minority Report’ in January

Larry Wilmore will take Stephen Colbert's timeslotComedy Central just announced that Larry Wilmore, Senior Black Correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, will replace Stephen Colbert at 11:30 pm ET each night on Comedy Central with his own show called The Minority Report. Starting in January of 2015, Wilmore will host the show, which Comedy Central describes as a “a comedic look at news, current events and pop culture from unique perspectives not typically on display in late night television.” Jon Stewart and Wilmore will executive produce the series, which will be produced by Stewart’s Busboy Productions.

“While Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comic and showrunner, this is all just a complicated ruse to get him to move to New York and turn him into a Knicks fan,” Stewart jokes. “I’m beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart.  I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Lakers t-shirts when I’m layering.” Of course, Colbert announced he’d be leaving his post at The Colbert Report after nine years to become the new host of Late Show on CBS, when David Letterman vacates the spot.

Wilmore has had an exciting past few years. He landed two comedy specials for Showtime in 2012 and last year he began working with up-and-coming comedian and writer Issa Rae. The two were co-writing a comedy series for HBO. The comedy would star Rae, and similar to her popular webseries, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, the show would focus on awkward moments and the race-based adversity of a modern day African American woman.
