• Last Call with Carson Daly ending after 17 years; NBC ponders replacement

NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly is ending after 2,000 episodes. Carson Daly tweeted on Tuesday, “Yes, Last Call is wrapping up! I’m forever grateful & proud to all who have worked w us over the years.”

The show, which has aired at 1:30 a.m. for 17 years, will end this season, but NBC has not yet announced a final date. Last Call is a half-hour late night show featuring interviews with big talent and live music. Daly, who also has radio DJ on his active resume, helped break music talents on Last Call such as Maroon 5, Halsey, and Ed Sheeran.

The Last Call host further tweeted that he wants to focus more on his other hosting duties and other areas of passion within “our company.” The former MTV VJ continued, “The Golf Channel has always been a favorite of mine and we have a few exciting things in the works.” NBC Sports Group previously announced that he will co-host a podcast with professional golfer Rory McIlroy for their digital GOLFPASS platform.

Carson Daly lightens load as Last Call ends

Daly keeps a busy schedule from morning through primetime into late night with Last Call. In the mornings, Daly hosts the Today’s digital studio, the Orange Room. During primetime, he hosts The Voice.

With the newfound free time, Daly will be able to focus more on his family. “My family will always remain my top priority and greatest gig,” he shared. The late night host met his wife Siri Pinter on Last Call and the couple has three children.

Will Chelsea Handler get NBC late night slot?

In a Tuesday video segment on Today, Daly explained that he felt like he was squatting on the time slot and wanted to pass it on to someone younger. NBC will reportedly announce a replacement for the 1:30 a.m. time slot. At least one source is speculating that Chelsea Handler could be a potential candidate. The talk show Later previously filled the time slot with hosts including Greg Kinnear and Bob Costas.

Unfortunately for NBC, David Spade is taken.

The final season of NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly airs weeknights at 1:35 a.m.
