Last Comic Standing strike, 15 editors walk out, demand union contract with health benefits and pension

JB Smoove hosts Last Comic StandingLast Comic Standing will make it’s triumphant return May 22 on NBC— unless, of course, an editors strike totally derails the network’s plans. is reporting that approximately 15 editors and assistant editors walked off the job today, part of a strike spearheaded by the Motion Picture Editors Guild, Local 700. “Hired by NBC Studios on a non-union basis, the editors are seeking a union contract that includes industry-standard health insurance and pension benefits,” writes Dominic Patten.

Executive producer Wanda Sykes has taken hold of the twice-cancelled stand-up comedy competition show. Comedian J.B. Smoove is set to take over hosting duties. There will be 100 comedians battling for one grand prize. Comedy icons Roseanne Barr, Keenen Ivory Wayans and Russell Peters will act as Last Comic Standing judges. Earlier this year, Laughspin reported that there would be many changes to this year of Last Comic Standing, including the omission of open calls.
