• Laugh Factory will stream content on PlayStation for a fee

In an effort to further promote its brand, the Los Angeles based Laugh Factory will begin to stream content on PlayStation 3. Laugh Factory Live, as they’re calling it, will debut Sept. 1 for free. Come December, however, gamers and comedy lovers will have to drop $3 a month to keep the service. Merry Christmas.

So, the question most comedy fans undoubtedly have is, Why would I pay for something I can get for free online at the Laugh Factory’s YouTube channel? Well, it’s true. Some of the content will surely overlap. There will be on-demand clips — the same as you’d see online — however, you’ll also be able to stream entire live comedy shows from the club, a Laugh Factory rep tells us.

I have to say that it’s admirable to see a venue try to branch out and take advantage of the possible reach of multiple platforms, but I’m not sure there’s enough gamers out there willing to pay even one cent so that they can peep some live comedy on their television screens. And there’s no way that serious comedy fans, who happen to also be gamers, are going to pay up so that this model becomes one other businesses will follow.

What do you think? Would you be willing to pay $3 a month to have access to the Laugh Factory’s clip archives and watch live comedy shows from its Hollywood location?
