Jerry Seinfeld will headline the 2015 Lucille Ball Comedy Festival on Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena. The comedy festival in the I Love Lucy star’s hometown takes place each summer to celebrate Lucille Ball’s spirit of laughter. The comedian helped organize its first incarnation but passed away in April 1989 just before thousands of fans travelled to Jamestown. The festival brings the country’s top headliners to western New York and supports rising comedians from the area. Jay Leno and America’s Got Talent runner-up Tom Cotter headlined last year’s festival. “Jamestown celebrates the best in comedy, and Jerry Seinfeld is exactly that,” said Journey Gunderson, the festival’s producer and executive director of the Lucy Desi Center for Comedy and National Comedy Center.
Also appearing at next year’s festival will be a Lucy Ricardo hologram. The 2015 Lucille Ball Comedy Festival will feature the first-ever comedy-based hologram. With Hologram USA and Dream No More Studios, the National Comedy Center has developed a hologram of Lucille Ball’s Vitameatagegamin scene from I Love Lucy. Hologram performances have become popular after a Tupac hologram performed with Snoop Dogg at the 2012 Coachella music festival.
The Lucille Ball Comedy Festival will take place July 30 – Aug. 2 next year. Members of the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum & Center for Comedy will get the first chance to buy tickets on Feb. 2. For more ticket information, visit www.lucycomedyfest.com.
