The team behind Modern Family is bringing a new dysfunctional family to ABC with their new pilot Happy Accident. Abraham Higginbotham and Jon Pollack are both writer-producers for ABC’s smash hit Modern Family and have received a pilot order from the alphabet network.
Happy Accident will revolve around two Pittsburgh families who are forced to live together after a family secret is revealed. While no one has been cast yet, the principal characters will be a father, his three adult daughters, a lounge singer, and her med student son.
The project started as a spec script written in-house at 20th Century Fox Television. Now that the pilot has been picked up for production, 20th Century Fox will produce along with ABC Studios.
Pollack, prior to Modern Family, co-created the short-lived Perfect Couples on NBC. Higginbotham also came from the TV comedy world with credits on Ugly Betty, Will & Grace, Family Guy and Arrested Development. He executive produced Go On and Up All Night, both of which were also short-lived and on NBC.
No director is tied to the project yet, but a director and casting director should be named shortly given the network’s intent to start production early in this year’s pilot season. 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios have already partnered for another ABC pilot, a new iteration of NYPD Blue.
