• Moontower Comedy: Day 3, featuring Maria Bamford, Chelsea Peretti, Dana Gould, more! (Photos)

AUSTIN – First of all, major kudos are due to the organizers of the first annual Moontower Comedy & Oddity Fest for refraining from naming their all-female stand-up show “Taco Party.” (It must have been especially hard to resist, considering that this lineup was arranged as an estrogenized counterpart to the “Sausage Fest” show.)

But secondly, and even more importantly, hot damn, would ya look at that lineup? Jackie Kashian, Rachel Feinstein, Erin Jackson, Erin Foley, Chelsea Peretti, and the venerable Mary Lynn Rajskub and Maria Bamford – all-star power playing never looked quite so fiery. And boy (girl?) did these ladies ever deliver. From Peretti’s casual dismissals of house wifery (“Do I have to have a baby to quit everything I do, or can I just quit everything I do?”) to Bamford’s always reliable self-effacing sputters, there was nary an unturned smile to be found in the house.

Perhaps best of all was the emergence of Rajskub, whose priorities have fallen more within the lines of network television character acting than stand-up of late. Comedy nerds countrywide miss you, Mary Lynn! Consider coming back to comedy full time before that pesky Mayan apocalypse ravages us all?

Moving right along with the evening, our comedy cohorts shuffled on over to the Scottish Rite Theater for some high quality Boomer humor from Dana Gould and friends. Bringing that caustic, pop culturally savvy wit to the table, Gould waxed nostalgic about the likes of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones (remember them?) in between sets from friends like Andy Kindler, John Ramsey and Tom Rhodes. Returning evening champions Maria Bamford and Chelsea Peretti also popped up for some ribald rib tickling– in all, a decidedly solid set list that could have been taken straight from the most powerful of LA agent’s (virtual) Rolodex.
