    —-

Parks and Recreation, the relatively low-rated but passionately loved Thursday night series on NBC, has been renewed for a sixth season. In addition to the obvious benefit – that one of the best shows on television is returning despite its lack of CBS-type ratings – it means that, having just aired its 90th episode last week, Parks and Rec will easily hit 100 episodes, which is traditionally the number wanted for syndication deals.

The programming execs at Comedy Central are undoubtedly already prepping a pitch for off-network syndication rights, the same way they did in 2009 when they acquired 30 Rock. So don’t be surprised when you start seeing more Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Aziz Ansari, Rashida Jones and co. on the comedy giant.

With all of this good news, comes bad news for other shows: Whitney (Whitney Cummings, Chris D’Elia) has been canned after two seasons; 1600 Penn (Bill Pullman, Jenna Elfman) is gone after one, the Jimmy Fallon-produced Guys with Kids was axed after two seasons (one more than it deserved) and Up All Night has officially been let go after two seasons. Of course, we sort of already knew that (you can read about that here).

And finally, it’s hard to ignore the big white, hilarious elephant in the room— Community. Having just aired its season-four finale last night (recap here), we still don’t know what’s happening with the cult ensemble that stars Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi and Donald Glover. We’re also awaiting the fates of freshman comedies The New Normal and Go On starring Matthew Perry, which generally earned much higher ratings than all of the aforementioned shows.
