• New Ghostbusters film will happen with or without Bill Murray, says Dan Aykroyd

Although there have been talks of a new Ghostbusters movie, the progress reports haven’t left fans feeling optimistic. Dan Aykroyd has had plans for Ghostbusters III for years, but with Bill Murray’s lack of interest it hasn’t looked good. Now, Dan Aykroyd tells Metro magazine that the project is definitely on, and shooting begins next year – with or without Murray.

“It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation,” Aykroyd says of the franchise, which began in 1984 and was followed up with a sequel in 1989. “Ghostbusters III can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.”

So, unless Murray changes his mind by next year, it looks like Dr. Peter Venkman is being written out. We’re not super excited about a third Ghostbusters without Bill on board, but Aykroyd is optimistic about the project. “We’ve got a brilliant new writer on it and we’ll be passing the torch on to a new generation. We’re working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans,” Aykroyd promises.

Tell us, Laughspinners: Would you throw down money to see a new Ghostbusters film without Bill Murray?
