• Punchline Magazine’s 10 favorite marijuana-related video comedy bits

Tomorrow is April 20. (It’s today if you’re reading this on Wednesday). For those who don’t smoke marijuana on a regular basis, it’s just Wednesday.

For pot heads worldwide, however, 4/20 is the biggest day of the year; it’s the day when stoners get more stoned than usual or at least get stoned in a more festive manner. To celebrate this fake holiday, Punchline Magazine presents our favorite marijuana comedy film moments (and one television moment). Enjoy.

When Dave Chappelle and Neal Brennan wrote Half-Baked, they had no idea it would turn into what it is today– a modern cult film classic. In the scene below from the 1998 flick, Chappelle (Thurgood Jenkins) gets an earful from fellow addicts upon announced his habit of smoking weed.

I’m reasonably certain every aspiring college student has hopes that Animal House is a faithful representation of the experience, and this clip is no exception. Plus, who doesn’t want to mellow out with Donald Sutherland?

Doug Benson is a modern day Paul Revere; that is except warning us that the British are coming he’s telling us about pot. That makes total sense, believe us. Anyway, we love the now classic bit he does on those silly anti-pot ads; this clip is from his pro-pot flick Super High Me.

Everyone has that friend who acts wasted after having three sips of beer, right? This clip from Euro Trip speaks to that lameness, as Scott and Jenny consume what they think is a crazy potent batch of hash brownies. Spoiler alert: it’s not. What this scene shows probably explains why so many countries hate America.

Revenge of the Nerds, featuring a young and adorable Anthony Edwards, is an unsung hero in the college movie genre. When the nerds have a ridiculously lame party with the Lambda Lambda Lambda heads and the Omega Mu sorority sisters, Booger saves the day when he breaks out his stash of wonder joints. And we see everyone, Poindexter included, break it down hardcore. In the words of the second-in-command Tri-Lamb, “this is some good shit.”

I have fond memories of watching Road Trip to see Barry, played by Tom Green – it came out when he was a major name on MTV – but a lot of the movie’s comedy comes from the other cast members. Here’s a great moment where Ruben smokes up with Barry’s grandfather.

Real pot enthusiasts have to improvise sometimes, as seen here in this clip from Cheech and Chong. Also it’s important to remember, insects have more protein per ounce than red meat.

Half Baked (see our first video) has way too many wonderful weed moments to list here, but we’d be remiss not to offer you a second clip. Jon Stewart hasn’t acted in feature films recently, though he certainly had his fair share of roles back in the day (The Faculty, anyone?). So, here, he portrays the “enhancement smoker” – who is just as annoying as he sounds like he’d be.

You’re going to have to excuse the poor quality of this next video. It was just too good not to include. We find Chevy Chase in a vintage Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live with an incredibly important news story about marijuana.

The late comedian Bill Hicks had some incredibly intelligent theories on marijuana laws. This list wouldn’t be complete without him.

    Carrie Andersen

In addition to writing for Laughspin, Carrie is a graduate student in Austin, Texas, where she researches popular culture, new media, music, and social movements. When not reading or writing in any official capacity, she spends her time playing the drums, watching crappy TV, and eating copious amounts of tacos and barbecue. She also blogs sporadically at carrieandersen.com.
