• Robin Williams’ Mrs. Doubtfire sequel very possible says Fox 2000

Robin Williams will return as Mrs. DoubtfireRobin Williams will return as Mrs. Doubtfire– if Fox 2000 has anything to say about it. The studio announced that it is developing a sequel to the hit 1993 Robin Williams comedy Mrs. Doubtfire. It’s actually been in development hell since the original came out nearly 21 years ago, but new talent recently signed on to the project have offered the studio a fresh take. Elf screenwriter David Berenbaum will take a crack at the movie, which has been requested by fans for the last 20 years. Williams is attached to reprise his role as the desperate divorced dad in drag with Chris Columbus attached to direct. The original film starred the Crazy Ones actor as a father who dons prosthetics to become the titular nanny in order to secretly spend more time with his kids.

It’s not a mystery as to why Fox wants to make the sequel: the original grossed over $200 million in domestic box office revenue and over $200 million more overseas. Williams has always wanted to do a follow-up film, commenting during a Reddit AMA, “Mrs. Doubtfire 2 will happen if they could ever crack the script, to come up with a really interesting idea for her to come back!” The comedian also shared a kinky production story from the early 90s filming. While in full make-up, he walked into a sex shop in San Francisco and tried to buy a double-headed dildo. He almost pulled off the prank until the guy at the store realized it was Robin Williams “and not an older Scottish woman coming in to look for a very large dildo and a jar of lube.” He might have more time on his hands to shoot movies now since his CBS sitcom The Crazy Ones still hasn’t been renewed and will likely not return for a second season.
