• Russell Brand and Julianne Hough set to star in Diablo Cody’s directing debut

Diablo Cody became an overnight sensation with her 2007 writing triumph Juno (Michael Cera, Ellen Page). She’s now been tapped to direct an as-of-yet-untitled film starring comedian Russell Brand and Julianne Hough, who’s mostly known for her work on Dancing with the Stars. Hough, who will next be seen in Footloose (a remake of the 1984 classic) will play a young woman who loses her faith following a plane crash. While imbibing in the decadence of Sin City, she meets Brand’s character who helps her find herself.

While the story seems formulaic (most Hollywood flicks are these days) with tints of Leaving Las Vegas and Forgetting Sarah Marshall it will be interesting to see if Cody’s creativity and Brand’s star power will give birth to a quality film. Mandate Pictures is producing; they previously worked with Cody and producer Mason Novick on Juno and also Young Adult. The latter stars Charlize Theron and Patrick Wilson and was written by Cody; it will hit theaters on Dec. 16.

Fred’s passion for comedy began at an early age when for some reason his father allowed him to watch George Carlin perform his classic "the seven dirty words you can’t say on television" routine. Fred has spent time in Las Vegas running comedy shows at a casino theater and also in Chicago writing about comedy and producing his own live shows. Since moving to Los Angeles in May 2010, he has worked in the live booking department of a major talent agency and currently works for a top talent management and production company.
