The folks behind the Swedish children’s program Bacillakuten think it’s never too early to start teaching kids about genitals. A new music video from the series features a dancing cartoon penis and vagina. The clip has already gone viral in Sweden and is starting to go worldwide.
While the genitals video is entirely in Swedish, it’s obvious to anyone watching that the cute smiling creatures are a penis and vagina. There is even a scene showing exactly where “snipp” and “snopp” (the kid terms for genitals) appear on the human body.
According to The Local, the lyrics to this genitals video include lines like: “The vagina is cool, you better believe it, even on an old lady,” and “Here comes the penis at full pace.” The clip is part of a program that helps teaches kids about the human body.
The video has amassed more than 700,000 views on YouTube and over 900,000 on the series’ Facebook page. Unsurprisingly, viewers were divided on the appropriateness of this genitals dance. Many were upset that such an explicit video would appear on a children’s program.
“It is not that we don’t want to talk to our children about sex,” Christina Henriksson (via Bing translate) commented on this genitals video. “It’s about we want to inform our children ourselves when we think they’re ready for it, we don’t want them involuntarily to learn this through the media. “
But others, like Andre Sjoroos, thought it was good to get these sexual topics out in the open. “There is something to talk about and we must break the taboo around sex,” he wrote under the video.” It is only right that kids should get answers to their questions when adults do not take their responsibility and respond to the questions children have about sex.”
Ironically, the comments under this genitals video got so explicit that the folks running the Facebook page had to warn followers to watch their language for the sake of young fans.
SVT, the network which airs the program, also said in a Facebook statement that they decided to discuss the penis and vagina on Bacillakuten after receiving numerous questions from kids about the topic. But we doubt this will be a satisfactory explanation for the outraged parents.
