    Nick Vatterott’s no-label Laughspin Interview

I met up with Nick Vatterott in the new “alt mecca” that is Williamsburg, Brooklyn where we arrived wearing the exact same London Fog overcoat (“Take that, Nick Turner!”). He hands me the new promo item for his debut album, For Amusement Only, something he sees as the future of comedians hawking merch after shows. Instead of carrying around a big box of CDs, he hands me a card with

Trevor Moore of Whitest Kids U’ Know reveals the truth about the Founding Fathers (Video)

Trevor Moore, member of sketch group Whitest Kids U’ Know (on tour now!) just released his first solo album Drunk Texts to Myself today through Comedy Central Records. I’ve listened to the album at least five times already — comedy writers get things early…hooray! — and I have to say it’s downright addicting. You may have already peeped Moore’s first video in support of the musical comedy album, but today,

Joe DeRosa: “Return of the Son of Depression Auction” (Review)

Last year saw the release of several brilliant comedy albums, one of which was undoubtedly Joe DeRosa’s dark gem The Depression Auction. The album is filled with DeRosa’s characteristic angst and frustration. More important, though, The Depression Auction is, in a word, real. On stage, DeRosa doesn’t hold back. You can hear it in his voice; you can even read it in his album track titles: “I’ve Never Been in

    Wyatt Cenac: “Comedy Person” (review)

Wyatt Cenac’s debut album Comedy Person is smart, perceptive and witty— pretty much every characteristic one would ascribe to a stellar comedy album. Clocking in at over an hour long, the 13-track album covers a wide range of material while averting any lulls. It’s easy to conclude, even after a casual listen, that Cenac is a polished stand-up: his segues are smooth, his pacing is rhythmically solid and his material

Interview: Kurt Metzger talks “trust fund pussy” comedians, Ugly Americans and more

On his new album for Comedy Central Records, Kurt Metzger Talks To Young People About Sex, the titular comedian takes the tradition of a relentless, rough-around-the-edges East Coast comic to the next level. Metzger – he also voices the character  zombie Randall Skeffington on Ugly Americans, which is in its second season now – deftly takes aim at the famously terrible Cash4Gold commercials, “whores,” Michael Jackson (a bit you can

Tommy Johnagin: “Stand Up Comedy 2” (Review)

It’s no secret among my circle of friends that I gravitate towards edgy comedy. I love being punched in the gut by a barrage of vulgarity and shock à la George Carlin, Bob Saget, even Louis C.K. or Marc Maron. I want to come out of a show with my soul destroyed and my faith in humanity shaken. Fun times! Immersion in that flavor of comedy meant listening to Tommy
