Steve Carell and wife Nancy’s police comedy Angie Tribeca starring Rashida Jones received a 10-episode first season order from TBS. Carell’s project is a single-camera show that focuses on an eccentric but brilliant group of LAPD detectives who investigate crime and refuse to rest until justice has been served…sort of. “We’re proud to be working with the outstanding comedy talents behind Angie Tribeca, especially Nancy and Steve Carell and the incredibly talented Rashida Jones,” said Michael Wright, the head of programming for TBS. Jones plays the titular character, a lone wolf detective in the bureau. The former Parks and Recreation star signed on to the pilot in January after exiting the Emmy Award-nominated show. She also produced a pilot for NBC called A To Z that recently picked up for series. Jere Burns, TBS regular Deon Cole and Andree Vermeulen will co-star on the series.
Angie Tribeca will be Steve Carell’s third current show on the air. He also serves as executive producer on the Showtime comedian documentary series Inside Comedy (which recently wrapped up its third season) and on the celebrity game show Riot which debuts on Fox on May 13. In addition to his behind-the-scenes role on new television shows, Carell stars in the upcoming film adaptation of the children’s book classic Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day in theaters later this year and is recording the Despicable Me spin-off animated film The Minions due out in 2015. Angie Tribeca will premiere on TBS in 2015.
