• ‘The Comeback’ Returns! Will Lisa Kudrow, Kellan Lutz And Malin Akerman Return For Six-Episode Revival Of HBO Series? (VIDEO)

The Comeback is coming back! The Lisa Kudrow series is reportedly returning for a six-episode run with its original star.

News of The Comeback’s possible return first went viral last month, when Deadline reported that HBO was considering bringing back the series. But even before that, Kudrow herself often expressed her desire for a revival.

“Every time we [creator Michael Patrick King and I] get together for lunch, we’re talking about, ‘OK, so what would happen next?’ So we are talking,” Kudrow said last summer.

    Malin Akerman

The HBO series starred Kudrow as a washed-up television star who signed up for a reality series in an attempt to get back in the spotlight. The Comeback aired for just 13 episodes in 2005, but it has since developed a cult following among fans. Many felt the mockumentary-style show was ahead of its time, but the prevalence of non-competition reality shows in recent years might make The Comeback  more palatable to today’s audiences.

It was such a unique show, and remember there wasn’t a Real Housewife anywhere,” King told EW.com in February. “There was no one who looked like [Kudrow’s character] Valerie — people were just sort of eating bugs on Survivor or, like, trapped in the jungle on I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. Everything that’s really unique is ahead of its time. Anything that you can’t identify as something already runs the risk of being misunderstood because it’s never been seen yet. Even our weird camerawork — it was before The Office made that common.”

And The Comeback fans should not worry that this revival will pale in comparison to the original. Per E! News, which first reported the news of the comeback, King, along with writers Dan Bucatinsky and Amy B. Harris, will be involved with the new episodes. Original stars Kellan Lutz and Malin Ackerman are also expected to return, though, unlike Kudrow, they will probably not be in every episode. The revival is expected to follow the characters nine years after the original series took place.

As of now, it is unclear exactly when The Comeback will return to television, but production is reportedly set to start in May. Currently, the plan is only to film six episodes, but if the ratings hold up, The Comeback could be fully revived.
