• ‘The Incredibles’ sequel is happening and also ‘Cars’ but we’re way more excited about The Incredibles

A sequel to the heavily praised and now cult-followed animated feature The Incredibles is most certainly in the works, according to Walt Disney Company chairman Bob Iger, who told shareholders today there’s also a third Cars flick in development. The news of The Incredibles sequel is somewhat unexpected (and exciting) since it has been nine years since the original hit theaters. The second Cars movie came out in 2011 and made a lot more cash worldwide than The Incredibles. So, we sort of all knew that was coming.

The Incredibles follows a family of “supers” who, like every human with super powers, have been relegated to suburban life and regular jobs after a series of successful lawsuits were filed against the world of super heroes. A new threat to civilization, however, pushes father Bob Parr (Craig T. Nelson) out of retirement and back into his Mr. Incredible suit. Holly Hunter voices his wife, Elastigirl; Sarah Vowell and Spencer Fox voice children Violet and Dash, respectively and Samuel L. Jackson plays Bob’s best friend Frozone.

Though Iger didn’t mention any plot points or casting (safe to assume Nelson and Hunter will be back, though, unless you want a fan revolt), he did reveal original writer and director Brad Bird will be involved, which is stellar news. Just for fun, check out the often quoted “no capes!” scene from the original, wherein Bob is getting fitted for an updated super hero costume.
