The Simpsons are one busy family. Not only will they be making a visit to the Griffin household in a Family Guy appearance, but they will also be the host of the Futurama crew in an episode crossover. At The Simpsons Comic-Con panel this past weekend, showrunner Al Jean revealed the plans to create the crossover episode with Futurama creator Matt Groening.
Jean described the plot to Entertainment Weekly: “Bender has to come back from the future to kill Bart because there’s something that Bart does now that makes the future really, really, really bad.” He adds, “Futurama is such an easy fit. It’s really funny, and their show lends itself to any variety of plot lines. By having them on, we have a little freedom… The biggest thrill for me is that we don’t have to adjust the animation style.”
Futurama cast members Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Phil LaMarr, and Maurice LaMarche will be lending their voices for the episode. Tess MacNeille, who is both a Simpsons and Futurama regular will also be heard. DiMaggio previously made a cameo as Bender in season 16 of The Simpsons, and the two shows have made references to each other on multiple occasions. The episode is scheduled the air either in May 2014, or the fall of 2014.
